The first homepage I can remember visiting was rat.org (which no longer exists in the form that it did). My mother and I would go to the public computer lab at Iowa State University and just escape from an unfavorable home by wasting time on the net. At the time, I was really big into Midway's Mortal Kombat, so I would peruse the net for fatalities, combos, pictures, or whatever else I could find (notably, a fabled Goro Morph or something....). I distinctly remember a picture of a rat that was standing up on its hind legs, and white text around it said "Worship me mortals". From that point on I knew I would someday own a domain and try to make it as cool as rat.org
It was in those trips that OMNIpotus was born. The first moniker I can remember using was "Oberon", not remembering where I had heard it but thinking it was a cool nick. "Oberon" died quickly upon relearning that he was a "forest fairy" in a Shakespearian play, and I was not about to let my fragile little self-esteem be threatened by having my namesake be a "forest fairy". So, I tried again, and this time came up with another cool-sounding O-nick: "Omnipotus". I had thought that I had made that name up, it was after all the combination of the Latin words "omnis" and "potens", and the subtle sarcastic nature of it's implied meaning suited me quite nicely. I later relearned that he was a character on the short-lived "Tick" cartoon series, being a character who devoured worlds. Regardless, that nick stuck. The capitalization of the first four letters came from my online Quake-playing (Id Software) days when I had an innumerable amount of people ask me how to pronounce my name. I figured that "omni" and "potus" were two words people could say, so I decided to pull out the "omni" part and make it more distinct. I have been called "OMNI" ever since.
The years passed and I began to learn HTML however I could, which basically involved viewing the source of my favorite pages and tearing it apart to learn the functions and syntax. I spent a great many hours of my life in chat lines trying to figure out how to hide my IP from my posts, talking on PowWow, ICQ, and IRC to gather more information, and basically just being a high school nerd. Some time in there I worked as webmaster for a subdomain (now non-existant) based on the ION Storm game Anachronox. Then I went on to college and made my money by doing work study for the psychology department, making web pages and online tests for them.
In March of 2002 I purchased the domain OMNIpotus.com. It stayed unchanged for about a year while I fought with real life. Now I am trying to make it into a real domain, both for personal use and adding to one of many communities. In the works are very insightful subdomains, hosting pictures of my life and others' to share with family and friends, insight into my world and whatever else comes to my mind.
The future of OMNIpotus.com? The future of OMNIpotus? Who knows. Life is whatever you make of it... but here are some baby pictures, which is what I think the future is.
The past... I guess that depends on when you knew me. Unless you met me after 2002 you probably don't know the real me, and there's a good possibility that even if you had met me after that you wouldn't know me. Honestly, I don't remember most of my life before 2000, and so I can't say if I'm the same person or not. I don't feel the same, I know that much, and if you loved or hated me before it's likely that you'll still feel the same way now. I legally changed my name around 2003, just before I got married, and thought that I wouldn't look back. It turns out that since then I've actually had an interest in "the me that was"... so if you are here because you once knew me, be prepared... I may not be that person anymore.
